American hotel chains Hilton and Marriott have announced plans to expand in Africa to take advantage of the rapid growth of tourism on the continent

American hotel chains Hilton and Marriott have announced plans to expand in Africa to take advantage of the rapid growth of tourism on the continent.

The growing number of business and tourist trips to the continent makes it increasingly attractive for multinational companies. On Wednesday, Hilton said it plans to more than triple its portfolio in Africa to include more than 160 hotels.

The company plans to enter the markets of Angola, Ghana and Benin for the first time, as well as return to the markets of Madagascar and Tanzania, the statement said, which did not specify a specific timeline for the implementation of expansion plans.

Marriott plans to open 50 new facilities by 2027, the company announced on Wednesday. Among them will be hotels in five new countries: Cape Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Madagascar and Mauritania.

The group's existing portfolio in Africa includes almost 150 properties and 26,000 rooms in 20 countries and under 22 brands.
